Online Databases (By Subject)
Online databases are electronic collections of resources including reference books, journals, reports, and other forms of authoritative information. In many cases, this should be your starting point for research.
These resources are available on the web from any computer on the Cleveland Community College. You will need passwords to access the databases if you are not on campus. If you need help, online tutorials are available.
Business and Investing
- Business Source Premier is the most used business research database, providing full text for more than 2,300 journals, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed titles in all disciplines of business.
- Countrywatch provides information on each of the recognized countries of the world.
- CQ Researcher covers topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.
- CQ Weekly covers the activities of the U.S. Congress.
- Economic Development Information System database includes profiles of counties and industries in North Carolina. It provides information on available industrial properties, and comparisons between states in various statistical categories.
- Morningstar Library Edition covers mutual funds and stocks.
- ReferenceUSA provides detailed listings, including addresses and phone numbers, for companies and residences.
Education and Psychology
- CQ Researcher covers topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.
- Directory of Open Access Journals covers free, quality-controlled scientific and scholarly journals in many subjects.
- ERIC provides digests and references from over 750 education-related journals.
- LearningExpress Library is an online learning platform providing practice tests and tutorials designed to help students succeed on academic and licensing tests.
- North Carolina Curriculum from the Department of Public Instruction includes the goals and objectives for subjects and grade levels in North Carolina.
- PsycINFO is provided by the American Psychological Association and focuses on psychology and related disciplines.
General Reference and Research
- Academic Search Premier is multi-disciplinary, containing full-text in most areas of academic study.
- Directory of Open Access Journals covers free, quality-controlled scientific and scholarly journals in many subjects.
- Encyclopedia Americana Online is a useful general interest encyclopedia and a great place for users to begin researching a topic.
- CQ Researcher covers topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.
- Gale Virtual Reference Library is a searchable collection of online reference books.
- Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia includes seven encyclopedia databases: Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, La Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, and The New Book of Popular Science.
- MasterFile Premier is a database that provides general-interest periodicals and journals from 1984 through the present.
- ReferenceUSA provides detailed listings, including addresses and phone numbers, for companies and residences.

- Science Reference Center provides science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, & other resources.

- African American Experience, from Greenwood's American Mosaic initiative, is the definitive electronic research tool for African American history and culture.
- American Slavery: A Composite Autobiography is a collection of the life histories of former slaves, compiled from nearly four thousand interviews.
- Annals of American History
- Countrywatch provides information on each of the recognized countries of the world.

- Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center and Critical Thinking covers current events and social issues from various viewpoints and arguments.

- North Carolina Tax Forms includes downloadable versions of current North Carolina individual and corporate income, franchise, sales, and withholding tax forms.

- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- CINAHL covers many health-related disciplines. It offers access to health care books, periodicals, dissertations, conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, and audiovisual materials.
- Health Source: Consumer Edition provides consumer-oriented health information.
- Health Source: Nursing/Academic edition provides abstracts and full-text articles for scholarly journals in many medical disciplines.
- Healthfinder is a gateway consumer health information web site whose goal is "to improve consumer access to selected health information from government agencies, their many partner organizations, and other reliable sources that serve the public interest."
- HIV InSite is a project of the University of California, San Francisco AIDS Research Institute. It is designed as a gateway to in-depth information about HIV/AIDS, and provides numerous links to many authoritative sites.
- Mayo Clinic Health Oasis is a consumer source of health information. The editors are physicians, scientists, writers and educators at Mayo Clinic—a non-profit institution with more than a century of history in patient care, medical research and education.
- MEDLINEplus is one of the most comprehensive web resources for quality consumer health information. It was developed by the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. A Spanish version is also available.
