Placing Holds using CCLINC
A “hold” is essentially a reservation for material at another CCLINC library—a request for interlibrary loan, in other words—or for a book which is currently checked out from the Jim and Patsy Rose library. In the first case, the library which holds the item will send the book to the Jim and Patsy Rose Library for you to borrow; in the second, it places you on the waiting list for the item.
- Double check the CCLINC catalog to be sure that the item is not available at Cleveland. If you are not sure, ask a library staff member to help you.
- Search for the title at all libraries.
- Click “Details” next to the title you want to request or reserve.
- Click “Place Hold,” underneath “Keep” on the left.
- In the “User ID” field, type the number beginning with CV on the front of your library card.
- Choose an expiration date 3 weeks from the current date.
- Click on the “Place Hold” button.
- If the hold was placed successfully, a screen with your name and the item you requested will appear. Click OK.
Errors
- If the message says to enter the correct PIN, try again to be sure that you typed it correctly. If you still get the message, contact the circulation desk and talk to a Library staff member.
- If the message says “user not found,” check the user ID or alternate ID and be sure these numbers were entered correctly. If they were, contact the circulation desk and talk to a Library staff member.
- If the message says that the user cannot place a hold on any items, you may be blocked for some reason (overdues, fines, address problems). Contact a Library staff member for assistance.
